Have you considered learning more about APR? The Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) credential certifies your drive, professionalism, and principles, setting you apart from your peers and positioning you as a leader and mentor in the competitive public relations field.

PRSA-Phoenix highlights APR member Heather Vana (she/her/hers). Heather is the Senior Director of Communications at Avnet. She has worked in public relations for 16 years.

Question: How has PRSA's APR program helped propel your career?
Answer: Right off the bat, the fact that I was pursuing my APR helped me land my first director position and then put me in the succession pipeline to take responsibility for the full communications department just 3 years later.

Q: What advice would you give to those who are interested in obtaining their APR?
A: The biggest benefit I got from pursuing my APR was confidence. On bad days, being able to look at that piece of paper and remember my strengths and achievement gives me the confidence I need to push for the right thing, even if the path is full of political landmines. And in our field, that counts for a lot. Invest in yourself. Know your worth. And tout it. You are worth it.
