Reaching for the Stars: Recruiting Celebrities for Public Relations/Marketing Campaigns & Special Events

As Public Relations professionals, we have all worked on certain campaigns that we knew could garner that much more success with the support of the right celebrity. Although the benefits of hiring a public figure to skyrocket engagement and amplify the target message are limitless, persuading a celebrity to take time out and jump on board takes quite the finesse.
PRSA Phoenix members recently had the unique opportunity to hear from Rita Tateel, President of The Celebrity Source, via a special webinar hosted on June 15th. Participants learned about how celebrity endorsements and PR strategies can help grow your nonprofit or brand at almost any budget, with insider secrets from the celebrity guru herself.
By the end of the webinar, participants gained valuable insights into
- The definition of a “CELEBRITY”
- The psychology of a celebrity
- Motivating factors to get a celebrity to say “Yes”
- What to do after a celebrity says “Yes”
- Budgeting for Celebrity Participation
Towards the end of the webinar, Rita put participants to the test, quizzing them on who they believed would be the best celebrity for specific campaign examples. She also took time to answer individual questions and share relevant experiences she had working with celebrities on past campaigns.
A key takeaway from the webinar that all PR professionals can keep in mind when recruiting celebrities is to remember that superstars are not typically motivated by money. It is crucial to consider other motivating factors that will entice a public figure such as the unique perks and gifts you offer, or how you can include their family in the fun and exclusive activities should the celebrity hop on board.
